In celebration of the inaugural World Public Transport Day on 17 April 2026, 20 Kinderland children participated in a meaningful learning journey. The children, from Kinderland Preschools @ Ministry of National Development (MND) and Ministry of Manpower(MOM), were invited to SMRT’s On Track – Engineering Your Commute exhibition at Bayfront MRT Station.

The exhibition was organised by SMRT as part of a global initiative led by the Union Internationale des Transports Publics (UITP). It offered a behind-the-scenes look at the engineering systems that power Singapore’s rail network, and was officially unveiled by Guest-of-Honour Ms Sun Xueling, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of National Development.

Our children exploring the different components that keep trains functioning, gaining a deeper appreciation of the engineering and effort required to keep Singapore’s rail network running safely and smoothly.
Through real-world components and interactive displays, our Kinderland children gained insights into how trains operate safely and efficiently. They explored exhibits such as the third rail, current collector device, tread brake unit, and rail track components, including ballast, fastclips, and e-clips that ensure stability and alignment.
The experience gave our children a deeper appreciation of the precision and expertise required to keep Singapore’s rail network running smoothly.

Mr Lam Sheau Kai, President of SMRT Trains, shared that public transport connects people “to work, to life, and to each other.” He emphasised that every train journey reflects the collective effort of dedicated SMRT staff. Mr Ngien Hoon Ping, Group Chief Executive Officer of SMRT Corporation, added that such initiatives help the public better understand how the rail network operates.

Our children were amazed to discover what goes on beneath the “track,” gaining new insights into the systems that keep trains running.
Aligned with the event’s focus on inspiring the younger generation, this learning experience fostered early awareness of sustainability, urban mobility, and the role of public transport in daily lives.
At Kinderland, we remain committed to providing meaningful learning experiences beyond the classroom, nurturing curious, confident, and capable learners who are ready to engage with the world around them.
