Preschoolers from Skool4Kidz Campus @ One Punggol performed with the elders at the official opening of St Luke’s ElderCare One Punggol Centre last month.

The official opening event marked the launch of the Skool4Kidz Intergenerational Programme with St Luke’s ElderCare (SLEC). SLEC’s latest centre is located in the One Punggol integrated lifestyle hub in the North-east region.

The opening was officiated by Guest-of-Honour, Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of Health.

Through the partnership, the two organisations are “committed to enriching the lives of every child and elder in the care community by building positive relationships through meaningful and transformative activities”.

The collaboration features a structured 30-week intergenerational programme where the children would meet the elders at either centre for various activities. The programme caters to the different developmental needs of the preschoolers and promotes the physical, mental and emotional wellness of the participating elders.

Skool4Kidz Campus @ One Punggol has a conducive and interactive multi-purpose room to promote bonding and learning for both young and old.

One of the key activities is to encourage the elders to tell their life stories. This can help enhance the older persons’ self-esteem and create a positive outlook in life as they share with the young children.

Skool4Kidz preschoolers guided and taught the elders how to code with Bee-Bot.

The range of activities also includes sports, fitness & workouts, Wii video interactive games, cookery, arts and crafts, simple board games, and excursions. The Skool4Kidz Campus has a dedicated “magnetic wall” where both the young and old can engage in creative play and problem-solving to boost learning and teamwork.
