Singapore, March 15, 2025 – Confucius Classroom (Crestar) successfully hosted the cultural dialogue, “From ‘Ne Zha’ and ‘Blossoms Shanghai’ to Chinese Film and Television Series: Mao Jian vs. Huang Ruijie Dialogue.”

This event was held in collaboration with the Singapore Chinese Teachers’ Union (SCTU) and the School of International Chinese Studies (SICS), East China Normal University (ECNU).
Hailing from ECNU, Professor Mao Jian and Associate Professor Huang Ruijie led a compelling discussion exploring the distinctive characteristics and breakthroughs of Chinese film and television series, using the popular works “Ne Zha 2” and “Blossoms Shanghai” as focal points. Professor Mao Jian believes that film and television series undertake many cultural functions in contemporary society. Taking “Nezha 2” as an example, it signifies the arrival of “cosmopolitanism” in animation and embodies a collective spirit. They also analysed the globalisation and popularity of Chinese film and television series in recent years.
Professor Mao Jian, known for her sharp and humorous linguistic style, incisively summarized various phenomena in Chinese film and television series, filling the lecture hall with laughter. The dialogue garnered significant positive reviews, underscoring the strong appeal of Chinese cinematic works in Singapore. Registration for the 200-seat event reached full capacity within two days. It attracted a capacity audience of local Singaporean Chinese educators, cultural scholars, university students, and film and television enthusiasts.
Also a renowned Lianhe Zaobao columnist, Professor Mao Jian specially signed her latest books for her fans during the event. The atmosphere was lively, and it was heartening to see young faces in the book signing queue.
Confucius Classroom (Crestar) aims to foster Chinese language and cultural appreciation through engaging events of popular Chinese film and television series. It plans to continue hosting similar cultural events in the future.
