Dedicated practice and hard work helped a group of Hip Hop/Kpop students from Crestar School of Dance @ Woodlands Civic Centre (WCC) clinched the Diamond Award at Get The Beat Singapore 2024, held from 1 to 9 June 2024.
It was the first time the dance school in Crestar Learning Centre @ Woodlands Civic Centre had sent Hip Hop/ Kpop students to a competition. The group of eight girls, who called themselves the Super Shine Squad, was selected after an audition back in February. Aged 8 to 12 years old, they had put in more than three months of training and practice for the event.
The competition held at the Gateway Theatre featured three categories – Solos, Duo/Trios and Groups for various dance genres. The team went popping, locking and breaking their way to their first outstanding competition success in the Hip Hop 12 & Under category.
Asked how they felt after the event, the girls said the participation gave them a very important competition exposure. It allowed them to experience working together as a team, to watch how other competitors performed and to level up their confidence on the stage. They attributed the success to their teachers who had patiently guided them through many gruelling training sessions.
Lerzanne Goh, 12 years old, said it was fun and exciting, and she has learned to be more focused on her moves skillfully in front of an audience.
Lau Si Tong, also 12, felt that it was an exhilarating experience. “I learned how to dance better and look out for each other to move in sync well with my team mates,” she added.
Apart from the Hip Hop team, students from our Crestar Young Talent Programme (CYTP) also participated in Get The Beat Singapore 2024 in such categories as ballet, lyrical, contemporary etc. They won 17 top awards.
