With increasing use of digital technology to enhance teaching practices in early childhood (EC) education, preschool continue to face challenges in implementing it to improve children’s learning outcomes.
Our group’s training arm, KLC International Institute (KLCII), has some 40 years of experience in the EC sector, including the deployment of digital technology best practices to support children’s growth and development.
It continues its tradition of sharing its expertise at this year’s Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) Conference held at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre on 27 and 28 October 2023.
The theme of the conference was ‘Learning How Children Learn, Transforming Practices Together’, which was structured to offer insights into the science of how children learn. Two of KLCII’s senior lecturers had the opportunity to share their experience in the use of digital technology.
Ms Koh Siew Yong (Michelle), KLCII’s Assistant Head of English Programme (Early Childhood), presented an interactive workshop on “Data and Technology in Early Childhood Education: Innovative Approaches for Teaching and Learning Organisations”. She shared with participants the benefits and challenges of incorporating data and technology, and how they enable personalised instruction, student engagement, and assessment to support children’s learning.
Ms Hou Jing, KLCII’s Assistant Head of Chinese Programme and Senior Lecturer, conducted a workshop on “How Digital Technology can effectively support young children’s Chinese reading”. It was designed to help teachers improve children’s reading comprehension, cultivate children’s interests and habits, and help children master certain Chinese character reading skills.
Ms Koh has a Master of Education (EC) from the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore. Ms Hou holds a master’s degrees in both early childhood education and computer science. Both have many years of rich experience in working with young children, parents, and teachers in the EC sector.
The 3-in-1 ECDA event incorporated the ECDA Awards, SPARK Certification Presentation & Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) Finale. The Guest of Honour was Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State, Ministry of Social & Family Development (MSF).
