Representing Skool4Kidz, our little ones won the second prize in the international MatataWorld Robotics Competition (MWRC). This competition is a global robotics event to improve children’s all-round skills through fun and challenging coding activities.

Meet our little coding champs: Skool4Kidz Space Explorers.

Our team, ‘Skool4Kidz Space Explorers’ from Skool4Kidz @ Yishun Oleander Breeze, won the ‘Matatalab Creative Star Year Award’. Besides receiving a $500 cash prize, participation certificate and souvenirs, the team also qualified for the 2021 finals.

The competition titled ‘Space Exploration’ was organised by Technology Education Company, Matatalab. The competition focuses on increasing children’s self-confidence in science and technology through the use of robotic toys. It also helps children apply what they learned to solve real-life problems, explore and create a new world of their own.

Exploring Space through Coding

There were two phases in the competition. The first phase ‘Fly to Space’, required preschoolers to code a rocket launch, earth orbit and dock at a space station.

Successful participants in the first phase advanced to the second and continued to the final phase, ‘Mars Exploration’. This phase required contestants to create an open-ended project to the theme ’Migration to Mars’.

All entries were judged based on four criteria, namely hand-made props and map designs, task completion, solution novelty & plausibility and solution optimisation.

To promote sustainability, Skool4Kidz Space Explorers used recyclable materials such as paper, boards, popsicle sticks, clay, boxes and discarded Lego bricks to construct buildings, craters and landing craft.

Getting all ready to launch! Bravo, Skool4Kidz Space Explorers!

Skool4Kidz’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) curriculum actively engages children in tinkering with technology and tech toys to prepare them for the 21st century.
