Chinese language learning may never be the same again with a new book of case studies published to help improve the teaching approach in International Primary and Secondary Schools.
Published by Peking University Press, the book titled ‘International Chinese Teaching Starts from Here: Case Study and Analysis of International Chinese Teaching in Primary and Secondary Schools’ has been edited by HSK Centre (Crestar) / Confucius Classroom (Crestar), Singapore. It is a project of the “Chinese Bridge Fund” specially sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation in China (originally known as Hanban / Confucius Institute Headquarters of China).
The aim of this book is two-fold. Firstly, the case studies of current pedagogic practices in Chinese language can help teachers to be more confident in teaching the subject. Secondly, it is very helpful for those taking the “Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages” examination to perform better.
The book has five unique features, namely:
- It contains 60 actual teaching cases from 14 countries, including Singapore, the United States, China, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand, etc. The first 10 are invited works from various international schools in Singapore. The rest are outstanding works from the Global Chinese Teaching Essay Competition, organised by Confucius Classroom (Crestar), Singapore.
- All the case studies have been reviewed by well-known international experts to include their insights on each of the 50 competition essays to offer new perspectives on the subject.
- It features 10 directors and senior Chinese teachers of Chinese departments in international schools in Singapore sharing their experience.
- The contents are classified according to the examination syllabus of the “Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Language”.
- It has become an academic reference recognised by international schools and for university courses. Some candidates use this book as a guide for the written exam and interview segments of “the Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Language”.
