Young pre-schoolers rarely have the chance to “compete” in sports and relay games. At NurtureStars Sports Day on 24 August 2019 the children found that they could really have fun competitively, especially with their parents helping out.

Some 370 children from toddlers to Kindergarten 2 were joined by about 1,000 parents and family members at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall to “sweat it out” either as participants or supporters.

The event was flagged off by Dr. Akira Maehashi, Advisor to JACPA, Japan & NurtureStars Preschool. After the opening speech by Mr Donald Tan, SAFRA’s Deputy CEO, all parents and guests joined in a mass workout led by a team from ActiveSG.

Seventy Nursery children put up a PE demonstration, followed by a showcase of JACPA’s Hula hoops and skipping ropes exercises by the kindergarten children.

Many of the children had a roaring good time taking part in more than half a dozen games, including Junior Dash, Going on a Bear Hunt and Act it Out.

The half-day programme was wrapped up with the perennial favourite – the Tug-of-War between two teams of parents. Children and family members cheered excitedly for their respective teams.

The event not only gave parents the opportunity to help build confidence in their children, but also for them to bond with their young loved ones as well.
