Urban development and construction has resulted in ever more high-rise buildings. Green spaces for our children to explore, observe, record and experience nature have become scarce. Kinderland Preschool @ Zhuhai therefore built a 120㎡rooftop Eco Farm, the first of its kind in the Kinderland group. The private farm provides children an intimate learning space to observe and understand nature’s wonder.

The idea for the Eco Farm came about as Spring beckoned; in this garden the children can witness the primitive seasonal cycle of growth through Summer, harvest in Autumn and lying fallow in Winter. They will also experience first-hand the joy of growing and eating their yield and the simple pleasures of a fruitful harvest.

Our lovely Eco Farm

With this farm, we hope to ignite our children’s interest and curiosity for the wonderment of nature, and enjoy the fruits (or vegetables!) of their labour.

Introducing the “Farm to Table” concept into the classroom allows our Kinderland children to proudly showcase both their farming and culinary skills.

Our children learned to make a pickled salad

The Eco Farm is also a great space that can be used for other activities, such as a tie-dye art class using graphite blocks. Our children used this technique with indigo ink to make beautiful printed cloth. The tranquillity and fresh air in the farm was a perfect environment for them to showcase their creativity and expand their knowledge.

Kinderland Preschool @ Zhuhai’s parents were also invited to participate in Eco Farm activities and enjoy the garden’s sunny and green environment. Here, our parents can experience the happiness our children have as they grown and learn in our little farm.

An activity with some of our parents

As Spring arrives, we not only planted new vegetables but also our hopes for a year full of love, learning and growth. We hope to impress upon our children how interesting and captivating life and nature can be, and instill in them a desire for life-long learning!
