Jakarta Kinderland Preschool teachers pick up tips on creating effective learning environments

With 30 years of preschool teachers training experience under its belt, KLC International Institute (KLCII) has a lot to share when it comes to creating learning environments for young children.

It recently conducted a one-day course on “Creating a Self-Directed Learning Environment” for 66 preschool teachers from Kinderland childcare centres in Jakarta. It is one of the more popular continuing development courses among a total of 23 offered by KLCII.

The one-day course, held at the Kinderland Caringin Auditorium at Caringin Pondok Indah in South Jakarta on 14 September 2018, included a bonus e-learning component that extended the opportunity for the teachers to further hone their skills.

It was the first of its kind with e-learning to be conducted by KLCII in Jakarta in collaboration with Mrs Seemum Suprano, the long-standing Kinderland franchise partner in the Indonesian capital. Mrs Suprano has built up 6 Kinderland Centres in Jakarta since 1995.

The course was designed to help participants learn about effective environments to help children sustain intrinsic interest in learning, in order to provide them with myriad ways to practise and refine their skills. The teachers were equipped to design and introduce quality learning environments that are developmentally appropriate for children 4 – 6 years.

At the end of the day, teachers could log in using their mobile phones to complete an online assessment. Two weeks after the session, additional reading materials were provided to the teachers and a second self-assessment was done as a follow-up to the one-day course.

The course was conducted by two highly-experienced KLCII lecturers. They were Mdm Anizah Bte Mohd Saleh, Med (EC), BS (Child & Family), who has been with the early childhood industry for the last 35 years, and Ms Irene Ho who has a Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Studies from University of South Australia and a MEd from Singapore’s National Institute of Education and has been with the early childhood industry for the last 25 years.

Generally, all the participants were satisfied with the course and felt it was very well conducted.

“We learned how to plan and set up learning zones and organise the necessary materials to provide for effective learning,” said MsNuraini Jafar.
