Crestar Education Group’s Confucius Classroom (Crestar), in collaboration with East China Normal University (ECNU), officially launched its first online IBEC (International Baccalaureate Educator Certificate_DP) programme on 2 November 2024, garnering widespread attention.
ECNU is the first and only IBEC programme provider in mainland China, accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). Leveraging on ECNU’s robust research capabilities in disciplinary education, international education and teacher education, the online course brings together the successful practices of IB World Schools in both Singapore and China.
The programme integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application and aims to cultivate exceptional IB teachers – to embody international mindedness, possess a deep understanding of IB philosophy, and skilled in implementing IB teaching methodologies. Upon completion, participants will be awarded the IBEC by the IBO.
The programme is jointly designed and developed by an interdisciplinary academic team from ECNU and first-line IB teaching experts. Experienced IB teachers and leaders from both Singapore and China will undertake teaching responsibilities.
Confucius Classroom (Crestar) has recruited an inaugural cohort of 23 participants. For the first time, all ECNU IBEC lessons will be delivered entirely online, spanning approximately one year, until August 2025. This provides participants worldwide with significant flexibility in managing their time and efforts.
The 23 participants are currently teaching in seven countries and regions – namely Singapore, China, Hong Kong SAR, France, Mongolia, Georgia, and Romania. They come from diverse backgrounds, including in-service teachers aspiring to embark on a career in IB World Schools, experienced IB teachers pursuing professional growth, and language school teachers aiming to tutor IB World School students.
The participants are enthusiastic and optimistic about the forthcoming academic year. This programme will facilitate the realization of their IB teaching aspirations and open new avenues for their professional development in international Chinese teaching.
