Seven hundred teachers and staff from Crestar Education Group’s preschools went “back to class” on 19 July 2019 to update their knowledge and deepen their skills. Named ‘Professional Development Day 2019’, this event further improves the quality of learning delivery for pre-schoolers in their care.

All the preschools were closed for the teachers and staff from Kinderland, Skool4Kidz, NurtureStars and ELFA for the programme that includes training sessions and workshops. The teachers and staff from CEG’s international school, The Grange Institute, participated for the first time.

Teachers and staff from Kinderland, Skool4Kidz, NurtureStars, ELFA and The Grange Institute attended Professional Development Day 2019 altogether.

Held at five different locations, the day-long training exercise with the theme “Sustainable Learning for the Early Years” covered evergreen foundational topics. The topics were designed to help staff sustain the highest possible level of delivery in the classroom, including creative ways to foster bilingual learning. There were also learning programmes for customer service and kitchen staff.

Teachers from Kinderland and NurtureStars Preschools gather to explore creativity in Natural Science through Chinese language.

The workshops were designed by KLC International Institute and delivered by professional lecturers from its faculty. Topics include “Creating a Self-directed Learning Environment”, “Empowering Preschool Educators with Effective Communication Skills”, and “Integrating Stories & Music for Preschoolers”. Chinese language teachers had the opportunity to update themselves in the workshop on “Exploring Creativity in Natural Science through Chinese Language”.

Kitchen staff from all schools bond together for a fruitful session on nutrition and food safety.

Another important workshop was the one on “Nutrition and Food Safety” where some 40 kitchen staff had a three-hour refresher on nutrition for young children, focused on healthy food preparation, food safety & hygiene and food presentation. It was conducted by nutritionists and chefs who have extensive experience working with preschools.

The Professional Development Day 2019 was mentioned on Straits Times on ECDA’s Beanstalk (https://www.facebook.com/pg/BeanstalkSingapore/posts/?ref=page_internal).

The training workshops were held at the KLC International Institute’s Serangoon Campus, Devan Nair Institute for Employment & Employability, Singapore Human Resource Institute, Lifelong Learning Institute, and the Management Development Institute of Singapore.
