HSK Centre(Crestar) and Confucius Classroom @ Crestar will be holding the second symposium here to further promote the sharing of experience and best practices in the teaching of Chinese in international schools on 21 November 2015. The first symposium held two years ago attracted more than 200 participants from four countries in the region.
The 2nd Symposium on Chinese Language Teaching for International Schools will explore the diverse, innovative and effective methods for teaching the Chinese language in Singapore, where 70 per cent of the 36 international schools offer Mandarin in their curriculum. It will be co-organised with the Canadian International School in Jurong West Street 41 and held at the latter’s Lakeside Campus.
The programme will feature three keynote speeches and eight workshops, where the Chinese language department heads of seven international schools and Chinese language and culture specialists will share their teaching approaches and experience.
Participants will hear from the keynote speakers about the use of effective questioning to promote learning and differentiated learning in the Chinese classroom. A specialist from Hanban (Chinese Language Council International, Beijing) will share the significance of the Certificate for International Chinese Language Teaching, an internationally-recognised benchmark by China’s Hanban that sets the standard for teaching the language outside the country.
Interesting topics will also be discussed at the workshop, including effective ways of using the iPad in Chinese teaching & learning and a look at the different requirements for the ‘GCE’ O level Chinese examination in relation to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Mandarin examination.
Some 200 Chinese language teachers from international schools, primary schools, secondary schools and other education educational institutions in Singapore, China, South Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam are expected to attend the symposium.
Hanban’s International Chinese Proficiency Test Division is assisting in the organisation of the event.
