The Crestar International Dance Arts Centre (Singapore) in Beijing, Wangjing SOHO was officially opened at a ceremony held at the building’s main atrium on 17 May.
To mark the occasion, the centre launched the “My Ballet Dream – Relief project for China children living in poverty”, to which Crestar pledged to donate 100 yuan for every student who signed up for a dance course for a limited period. This project was conceived to create awareness for a more caring community so that more poor children could receive help and have a better future.
The opening ceremony cum charity project launch was attended by Song Hongyun, Director of China Population Welfare Foundation, Li Tianxin Dean, Director of Beijing Dance Academy and journalists from more than 30 news media such as CCTV, Beijing TV, People’s Daily, China Youth Daily, Beijing Evening News, Sina, and Sohu.
Crestar International Dance Arts Centre has three dance studios and other facilities such as a spacious student changing room. The Centre runs courses such as ballet, jazz, modern dance, latin, Chinese dance and others.
Its Arts Director is none other than Thomas Li Tao, who was a dance teacher with the Crestar School of Dance Singapore (CSD) from 1998 – 2011. Thomas was appointed as a dance principal in 2009. Before joining CSD, he danced with the Singapore Dance Theatre and subsequently, an instructor at the Singapore Ballet Academy and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
Li Tao holds the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Teaching Certificate with Distinction, Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) Teaching Certificate and the Bachelor of Performing Arts, Beijing Dance Academy.
During his time with CSD Singapore, he trained students and some of them had received International scholarships and won awards in International competitions.
