All the 54 KLCII students who had completed the highest level (modules 5.1 and 5.2) of the WSQ-Chinese Workplace Literacy (CWPL) programme early this year also passed the globally-recognised oral Mandarin proficiency test, Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi (PSC), conducted on 25 July 2015. Eighty per cent of the students achieved Grade 2A and above results in the PSC test.
“We are very happy that the CWPL students’ PSC results have exceeded our expectations. This is testimony to the high standards students have achieved after completing the course”, said Dr Meng Hui, Researcher and Appointed Tester of PSC, Institute of Applied Linguistics, China MOE.
The PSC test is popular with news presenters, actors, Chinese Language teachers and other professionals seeking a high standard of Chinese oral proficiency benchmark. Officially recognised by government and private workplaces in China and in Hong Kong and Macau, PSC has been developed by the Institute of Applied Linguistics that comes under the China Ministry of Education. In 2006, collaboration with Crestar Education Group facilitated the introduction of the PSC tests for the first time in Singapore through KLC International Institute (KLCII). KLCII is the appointed PSC authorised administration and test centre in Singapore.
In 2015, KLCII added the PSC test to the WSQ-CWPL to better equip students with the basic standard of oral Chinese proficiency for effective communication in both work as well as social settings.
